Snake Care

   Because of the large number of snakes available as pets, generalizing about habitat, feeding, behavior, etc., is not appropriate.  It is extremely important to research the individual requirements of the species intended for purchase.  Inappropriate housing and feeding are leading causes of diseases in snakes and other reptiles. 

   While snakes often require less time and attention than other pets, the time and space required to provide a healthy environment for them can be considerable.  It is well worth your time to understand your new snake’s requirements prior to purchase.  You will be happier and your snake will be healthier.

   There are many good herpetological societies nationwide that can provided valuable information before and after a snake is acquired.   A careful search of the Internet can also result in good information, as can the library or bookstore.
