Spay or Neutering your pet...

Pet over-population is a serious problem in the US Unfortunately there are over 4 million more dogs in the US than there are homes available. As a pet owner you can help solve the over population problem by having your pet neutered or spayed. The procedure is simple and painless while done under general anesthesia, neuters take 15-20 minutes while spays take 20-40 minutes.

A side benefit of spaying/neutering is that it will improve your dog's temperament and reduce its tendency to stray from home. Many people notice their dogs become more calm, gentle and affectionate after being neutered or spayed.

We recommend neutering any cats not intended for breeding use. This is done from 4 months of age onwards. Apart from preventing an increase in the ever-enlarging unwanted kitten population, it will discourage your cat from wandering too far. This will reduce the chances of your cat being involved in a road traffic accident, and will also reduce territorial behavior (ex. fighting with other cats) and therefore the risks of your cat developing fight abscesses or contracting feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) or feline leukemia virus (FeLV) from other cats. In male cats, early neutering decreases territorial urine spraying and diminishes the strong smell of tom cat urine. There is no upper age limit for neutering a healthy cat.

Female dogs are prone to breast cancer later in life. Spaying your dog before her first heat will reduce the risk to less than 5%. After the first heat the risk is approximately 28%, increasing with each heat.

Male dogs are prone to prostrate problems later in life. Neutering your dog at a young age will eliminate this painful problem.
